South Africa health authorities report two new laboratory-confirmed cases of toxigenic diphtheria from the Western Cape.
In addition, one additional diphtheria-related death was reported from the Western Cape.
Since the beginning of the year, 14 confirmed cases of respiratory diphtheria and two asymptomatic carriers of toxigenic C. diphtheriae, have been identified in South Africa. All respiratory cases and carriers were from the Western Cape.
