In response to responses on X to the Marco Rubio quote that has gone viral, I wrote:

God knew us before he formed us in the womb. Rubio said, "We were all created, every single one of us before the beginning of time." He did not say that God knew us before we were conceived, he said we were created before the beginning of time. That is a heresy, the preexistence of souls, condemned at the Fifth Ecumenical Council, the Second Council of Constantinople, in 533 AD. Words matter. The Fathers of the Catholic Church argued out the orthodoxy of the Faith against heresies for centuries to arrive at the orthodox creeds approved by the Church, and, for that matter, to set the Canon of Sacred Scripture, the Bible, also approved by the Church by the operation of the Magisterium, instituted by Jesus on Peter and the Apostles (Mat 16:13-19; 18:18) and passed on through Tradition and Apostolic Succession, that provides authentic interpretation to assure that what people derive from their reading of the Bible is the truth.
