Disney's CEO Josh D’Amaro wants to turn Disney+ into a "super app" that also sells park tickets, cruises, merchandise and games, kind of like Amazon Prime for Disney fans. That is a big objective and it needs one thing Disney does not fully have yet: all its data connected in one place.
Disney just made three moves—a TikTok deal, a company reshuffle and a promise to unify its consumer data “across the entire company”—that are the first real steps toward that goal.
Right now, Disney admits there is still a lot of work left to do. The real question is whether Disney can pull off the super app before a Wall Street analyst's warning to just give up on streaming comes true.
