I once noticed how my breath changes when I’m rushing—shoulders tight, chest shallow, thoughts racing ahead of my body. One day, in the middle of an ordinary moment, standing in a doorway, and unsure what to do next, I paused and followed a single breath in, then out. Nothing around me changed. But I did. The urgency loosened. The moment became clearer. What needed doing revealed itself without force.
Today, return with the breath.
Whenever you feel scattered, hurried, or distant, pause.
Place one hand on your belly, one on your chest.
Breathe slowly, feeling the rise and fall.
Let each exhale release tension, each inhale invite presence.
Return as often as needed, without self-criticism.
In returning with the breath, we do not force calm. We remember we are already here.
