Mantra for February 21 – The Courage of Small Truths

“Courage often speaks in small truths.”

I once sat across from a colleague who had been carrying unspoken resentment for months. During a routine meeting, he paused, looked down at his hands, and said quietly, “I feel overlooked when my ideas are passed over.” The words were simple, small. No accusation, no drama. Yet the room changed. The air softened. Conversation deepened. What had felt stuck began to move.

We imagine courage as loud declarations or bold gestures. Often it arrives in small truths spoken gently: “I need rest.” “This hurts.” “I was wrong.” These truths require no audience, no applause. They require only the willingness to let what is true inside touch the world outside.

Today, notice where a small truth waits to be spoken.

  • Sit quietly and feel for one truth held back today, perhaps a feeling, a need, a gentle correction.

  • Ask softly: “What would change if I allowed this small truth to be said?”

  • Choose one moment to speak or write it simply, without embellishment.

  • Offer it with kindness toward yourself and the listener.

  • At day's end, honor the courage: “I spoke a small truth today.”

In speaking small truths, we do not demand change. We invite it. And often, the invitation alone opens doors we did not know were closed.
