Mantra for February 23 – The Art of Pausing

“A pause is reverence.”

I once watched a musician prepare to play. Before the first note, she closed her eyes, hands resting on the keys, breath slow. The audience waited. The silence grew full, expectant. When she finally played, the music arrived with weight and clarity. The pause had gathered the moment.

We rush past pauses, fearing they signal hesitation. A pause allows what is true to gather. It lets impulse settle, wisdom rise, presence deepen.

Today, practice the art of pausing.

  • Notice moments today when hurry arises: before speaking, acting, deciding.

  • Insert a deliberate pause: three breaths, a hand on heart, eyes closed briefly.

  • Feel what gathers in the space: clarity, softness, a truer impulse.

  • Move from the pause rather than around it.

  • At day's end, honor the pauses: “I gave reverence to the moment today.”

In pausing, we do not lose time. We gain depth. The music of our lives sounds clearer for the silence we allow.
