Mantra for March 16 – The Beauty of Being Seen
“Being seen is the beginning of being known.”
I once sat in a small coffee shop on a rainy afternoon. An older woman at the next table looked over and smiled. She said, “I like the way you listen to the rain.” No one had ever noticed that about me before. The simple act of being seen in something so ordinary made me feel suddenly visible in a way I had not felt in years. Not judged, not fixed, just seen.
We spend so much energy trying to be impressive or invisible. Yet being seen—truly seen, without performance or pretense—is one of the deepest forms of love. When someone notices our quiet habits, our small joys, our way of moving through the world, we remember we exist as ourselves, not just as roles or functions.
Today, allow yourself to be seen.
Notice one small, authentic part of yourself today—your way of walking, the way you laugh, a favorite song you hum.
Let someone (or yourself) see it without explanation or apology.
If someone reflects something true back to you, receive it simply: “Thank you for seeing that.”
When you feel the urge to hide or perform, soften and stay visible anyway.
At day's end, acknowledge the moments of being seen: “I was seen today.”
In allowing ourselves to be seen, we do not become exposed. We become known. And being known is the root of belonging.
