In traditional architecture, the threshold of a home is a sacred space. It marks the boundary between the chaos of the world and the peace of the interior. To cross it is to leave one version of yourself behind and step into another.
We often rush through the thresholds of our day—moving from a stressful meeting to a family dinner without ever changing our internal state. We bring the "noise" of the office into the "sanctuary" of our homes. Design requires us to be mindful of these transitions so we can show up fully in every room of our lives.
Today, honor the thresholds:
Before entering your home, or starting a new project, pause for three breaths.
Mentally "leave at the door" the energy that no longer serves the next space.
Set an intention for how you want to be present in the room you are entering.
Notice how the atmosphere changes when you enter with intent.
A life of purpose is lived one intentional room at a time.
