MAGA is so corrosive to the social order because it depends on unspoken norms about ways to behave and how to deal with opponents in good faith. Ideally, there is some point where people are just embarrassed, we can all look at something and say "oh come on" and come to an agreement it's bad. You hope your political opponents have it in them to stand with reality every once in a while. It kind of holds this whole thing together, to believe they're not past redemption or impervious to reason.
