People Call Kirk’s Death a Tragedy Because He Had a Wife and Kid. So Did Bin Laden—What’s Your Point?

This is the cheap sentimental trick authoritarian apologists always reach for—humanizing the man while erasing his crimes. Having a family doesn’t absolve a life spent spreading poison. It doesn’t erase the years Kirk devoted to normalizing hate, to making young Americans more fearful, more cruel, more divided. It doesn’t erase the institutions he helped weaponize against the vulnerable, or the blood-and-soil movement he fed with a steady diet of lies.

The fact that Kirk had a wife and child is not a moral shield—it’s an indictment. He knew what it meant to love and to be loved, and still chose to tear that possibility away from millions of others. His “legacy” is the emboldening of white nationalism, the silencing of dissent, and the cheapening of democracy. Tragedy is what he inflicted. His end is merely consequence.

If you want to strip away the sanctimony and see Kirk for what he really was—a dangerous hatemonger feeding a murderous machine—read my articles and notes at Open Letters by Mersault
