The Call - A Psychological Thriller

A #vss365 story built around the word #insatiable

It was his raspy, tired-sounding voice. After everything Elisabeth had done, he was still alive, and now he was on her own mansion's phone.

She gulped.

"Everything you have ever done has been for your insatiable pride. You take from people, you manipulate people, you hurt people. All so you can be the most powerful, so you can look down on others and think you are supreme."

She stiffened her back. "There are several stashes of cash throughout my home. I also have gold and jewelry. It's all yours. Please, just- just take that and nothing else. Please do not harm my Nicole."

Through the phone, she could hear him exhale. She envisioned him relaxing.

What came next was otherworldly.

"No." His voice had adopted a dream-like etherealness. "It's possessions that led you down this path. It is the same path I was on when I was a mercenary. I will liberate you from your fallen nature. I will destroy it all for you so you can know freedom. Your thugs you use to hurt others, the money you use to finance your stranglehold on the masses, your so-called family that was never meant to be yours- all of it will be gone. And you will thank me for it because I am a hero."

Elisabeth put down the phone. She knew he was a threat, all the intelligence reports said so. But they never indicated he was something her materialistic mind could never comprehend. Was he a brute merely using flowery language, or was he something else- something dangerous? She shuddered at the thought. A true believer?
