Eddie Collins, second baseman for the Philadelphia Athletics  and Chicago White Sox , died on this date in 1951. An 18-time .300 hitter, Collins totaled 3,315 hits, scored 1,821 runs, and was named American League MVP in 1914. A member of six World Series winners, Collins was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1939.
