Deacon Phillippe, pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates, died on this date in 1952. A six-time 20 game winner, he twice led the league in FIP and once in win percentage. Phillippe won 189 games with a 2.59 ERA in 13 seasons and was on the 1909 World Series winners.
