Smokey Joe Williams, also known as Cyclone, pitcher mostly for the New York Lincoln Giants and Homestead Grays, was born on this date in 1886. Even with incomplete statistics he is known to have won 160 games with a 2.47 ERA, but he won hundreds more in a pro career that spanned nearly three decades. Williams was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999.
