Ernie Lombardi, catcher mostly for the Cincinnati Reds and New York Giants, was born on this sate in 1908. An eight-time All-Star, he batted .300 ten times, won two batting titles, and was the 1938 National League Most Valuable Player. Lombardi was a .306 career hitter and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1986.
