Willie Stargell, outfielder/first baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates, died on this date in 2001. A seven-time All-Star, he had 100 RBI five times, led the National League in homers twice, and was league's co-MVP in 1979. Stargell hit 475 career homers and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1988.
