Bob Elliott, third baseman mostly for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Braves, died on this date in 1966. A seven-time All-Star, he batted .300 four times, had 100 RBI six times, and was the 1947 National League Most Valuable Player. Elliott had 2,061 hits and 170 homers in his 15-year career.
