You’re assuming they will follow the procedures and let them leave — they’re in essence being ordered illegally into a kill box, these strikes have no Congressional authority, and these “plans” are placing the troops right into an Iranian ambush. What makes you think Pete is going to adhere to military law and regulations to let people out of their service?? I’m speaking as a Canadian veteran, all bets are off.
