I just finished reading an ARC of Amy L Bernstein’s Tent City.
The novel depicts a society on the brink of collapse and the consequences of taking stability for granted.I was often reminded of Steinbeck as I read it, and, in a looser sense, of Thomas Mann’s Buddenbrooks in its attention to social and economic decline.
As many of you know, I rarely read contemporary fiction because most of it is quite bad, but this one’s quite a gem! I really appreciated the long paragraphs of description here, which add some gorgeous texture to the novel. You rarely find those in literary fiction today (primarily because literary agents like to slash them apart)!
The book is now available on Amazon, and I recommend checking it out. Thanks again to Amy and her team for sending me a copy :)
