I find it hilarious when people’s minds are blown away that I’ve read so many books and I am not far to the left politically—and then their assumption is always that I’ve learned nothing from all of the books I’ve read.

The problem is that the “literature people” who are far to the left are reading the same set of classics (i.e. The Handmaid’s Tale, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Beloved, The Hunger Games) and also an overwhelming number of books published within the last 10 years, which tend to lean left by default.

But good literature should produce readers with a wide variety of viewpoints—which is why if you think that reading books automatically makes you a radical leftist, you are definitely doing the whole reading thing incorrectly.

There are more than five books out in the world. Go find them!
