The problem with contemporary “literature” is that it deals with hyper-specific contemporary problems that make sense exclusively to a hyper-specific contemporary audience. No one in ten years is going to know what a “tradwife influencer” was—and no one is going to care.
Contemporary “literature” tells us something specific about the current cultural moment. Real literature tells us something universal about ourselves.
