In a break-down of Mokobara's strategy, I had written, "Funky colors, cool functionality like phone charging, and bright yellow lining has made them the Veronica of the luggage category, and repositioned others as ordinary but reliable, like Betty."
I had ended the article with a question, "What’s the next 10X innovation from the house of Mokobara that will elicit the same feeling of wow?"
And they delivered!
Mokobara have launched Kids' backpacks.
What a great line extension strategy.
1) Kids' back packs are a natural extension within Mokobara's playground - 'micro commutes'
2) It is an underserved market, full of 'boring Bettys'
3) Wear and tear is high, so repeat purchase opportunities vs. suitcases are higher
4) Mokobara have added their characteristic functionality+yellow lining to stay on brand
