I love you Wonkette, I do.
I love even the centrists who read the Times and worry Biden is too Biden to beat the guy he beat already. Really!
But honestly I don't have it in me to read any articles about Joe should resign, and maybe it will surprise you, but I don't have it in me to read any articles about Joe shouldn't.
Debating "Is Joe competent to be president?" strikes me as exactly the same as debating, "Do trans people really exist, or are they dupes and victims of Big Gender who would be completely fine living a stereotypical life if only we took all their options away from them?"
Joe's here. He's doing the presidenting. Trans people are here, and we're violating norms of sex and gender.
The debate is hurting us, because it keeps alive the idea that facts are malleable. Hit that fact hard enough, enough times, and you can rework it into something completely different, yet still made entirely of fact!
No. That's not how it works. I'm tired of the debate. I'm tired of even countering the bullshit about "Should Joe retire?"
And maybe I'm an idiot. I am not a politicsian genius who studied politicsianism in school, learning at the feet of famous politicsianists the subtle ways of the politicsian mind. Maybe there's something deeply helpful in making the case of OHJB.
But the whole situation reminds me too much of the cis heroes of trans advocacy, telling the world that no one needs hormones or surgery if we just adjust our stereotypes by 8%, so why let anyone get health care now, knowing that we may someday, a thousand years from now, hit upon the perfect combination of tiny boxes such that no one ever steps outside the box they're shoved in?
I cringe. I pain. And now I have turned away.
Read about the case for Biden if you like. Personally, I'm done. I know I won't vote for Trump. I know I'm supporting Biden until the day he steps down. I know if that step-down happens before November 5th that I'm supporting whoever replaces him (Kamala Harris) to make sure the person running against Trump (Kamala Harris) wins the election and beats back tyranny.
I'm good. No need for any more of this on my account.
Now if you want to tally up the editorials telling Joe to resign and comparing that to the number telling Trump to resign, hell. I'm mathy. I'll be there for that.
