The app for independent voices

Everyone told me my three content pillars would never work together:

  • Creative entrepreneurship

  • Main character energy

  • Life as an American in France

On paper, they have no business being in the same publication. In practice, they're all saying the same thing: your life is yours to design.

That's the unifying idea. Not a niche in the traditional sense, but a worldview. And 18,000 subscribers later, something is clearly working.

So here's what I actually believe about the niche advice: you don't need to write about one narrow topic. You need to write about multiple things in a way that points back to one central idea. The topics are just different doors into the same room.

So, instead of "what's my niche?" the question becomes: "what do all the things I want to write about have in common?"

Answer that and your publication has a foundation. A point of view.

What's the unifying idea of your Substack? I'd love to know πŸ‘‡πŸ½
