Matt Gaetz as AG is very much in keeping with the philosophy that leads to a Pete Hegseth being nominated for Secretary of Defense.

After the lawfare abuses that Trump has personally endured—abuses that are by no means limited to him alone—there is no doubt but that extensive root-and-branch reform of the Department of Justice needs to be done.

The corrupt US Attorneys such as David Weiss (now Special Counsel overseeing the Hunter Biden cases) need to be purged. All of the careerists within the DoJ who empower and enable these corrupt US Attorneys need to be purged. The legal team at the FBI very likely needs to be indicted for some of their abuses of process.

Putting someone with strong ties to the DoJ—even someone who has been a state-level AG—will have a harder time coming in with the level of independence needed to execute the reforms that need to be made.

Hegseth is the right choice for SecDef for the same reason. Pentagon insiders are all disqualified because they are all the problem. Admirals, generals, lobbyists, and the civilian leadership of the miltiary departments all need to be purged, and the corrupt culture they brought with them needs to go.

Trump is bringing in outsiders because the insiders are the ones who need to go. My takeaway from all of this? He means to drain the swam and is not going to take “no” for an answer.
