My friend, Vu Le, really captured something important in this conversation - how we've lost our imagination about what we're actually working towards."
We don't think about what is the ideal world that we want to build... Many of us have just kind of given up and just think, how do I make this world slightly less shitty?"
This hits at something I keep thinking about in the nonprofit space. So many of us got into this work because we had a vision of transformation - a world where food pantries aren't needed because nobody goes hungry, where homeless shelters aren't needed because housing is a given.
But somewhere along the way, we started measuring success by how efficiently we manage the problems instead of how effectively we're solving them.
Worth thinking about: What if the real work isn't just making the current system slightly less harmful, but actually building the organizational infrastructure for the world we want to see?
The communities figuring this out aren't waiting for permission from Washington or Silicon Valley.
This kind of reimagined thinking is exactly what Vu explores in his new book "Reimagining Nonprofits and Philanthropy: Unlocking the Full Potential of a Vital and Complex Sector" coming out October 14th. Pre-order at linkedin.com/in/vu-le-b…
