Earlier this week I called attention to the curious crusade of Mary McAleese, former president of Ireland, who now— armed with a doctorate in canon law and honorary degrees from Catholic universities— inveighs against infant baptism.
Responding to that a helpful prelate called my attention to the teaching of the Council of Trent: Seventh Session, Canons on Baptism, Canon XIII:
If anyone saith, that little children, for that they have no actual faith, after having received baptism, are not to be reckoned amongst the faithful; and that for this cause, they are to be rebaptized when they have attained years of discretion; or that it is better that the baptism of such be omitted, than that, while not believing in their own act, they should be baptized alone of the Church; let him (or her) be anathema. [emphasis added]
So any Catholic institution which gives McAleese a forum, and any Church leader who appears alongside her in public, is defying the clear formal teaching of an ecumenical council.
