My friend Peter Kwasniewski (@DrKwasniewski) is dead-center on target in this analysis of the situation. Spoiler alert: The best solution is the one we already had: Summorum Pontificum.
Peter rightly rejects the idea of an ‘ordinariate’ for traditionalists. But I’ll quibble with him on one sentence:
“The faithful would be protected, perhaps, but at the cost of being formally marginalized.”
Some of the faithful would be protected: those who went to the ‘ordinariate.’ But the presence of tradition-minded Catholics in NO parishes provides a brake on experimentation, and their absence would leave others unprotected against novelties.
