President Trump demands “unconditional surrender.” What does that mean?
Essentially it means that he won’t negotiate with the current Iranian government. Which unfortunately means, in turn, that they have no incentive to stop fighting. But their subordinates do have an incentive.
After Hitler died, German military leaders quickly saw the wisdom of “unconditional surrender.” Let’s hope that there enough rational people in the Iranian government to reach the same conclusion.
Today brings news that Iran’s president— who had very little actual power while the Ayatollah was alive— has promised to stop drone attacks on neighboring Arab countries. That’s a small step in the right direction.
