There’s an important story here, about the record number of people entering the Catholic Church this year. The reports, coming from all over the Western world, strongly suggest a trend. It’s not easy to describe that trend, because it seems that a record number of young people are entering the Catholic Church at the same time that record numbers of young Catholics are leaving.

Rather than trying to identify exactly what’s happening— and falling into the error of thinking that it’s something we have done— let’s recognize this phenomenon for what it obviously is: a movement of the Holy Spirit.
