Make money doing the work you believe in

In Belgium, Bishop Johan Bonny wants to ordain married men, explaining that the number of single men pursuing the priesthood “has fallen to almost zero.”

In Luxembourg, Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich wants to discuss the ordination of women, because “I cannot imagine in the long run how a Church can survive when half of God’s people suffer because they have no access to consecrated ministry.”

How should the Vatican respond to this sort of theological ferment? It’s obvious; crack down on the Traditional Latin Mass!

But seriously, why are there no Belgian men interested in the priesthood? Perhaps more important, why does a cardinal of the Catholic Church think that any Catholic who is not a priest must perforce be suffering? I don’t suffer because I’m a layman. I do sometimes suffer because of the clergy, however. Like right now.
