When the US ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the country’s people had high hopes for a restoration of democracy, reports Archbishop Jesus Gonzalez de Zarate, the president of the Venezuelan bishops’ conference. But those high hopes are fading, he says, because of the “continuity among the political actors.” In other words, Maduro may be gone, but otherwise the government leadership hasn’t changed much.
