For Pope Leo, in the early months of his pontificate, a great challenge (maybe the great challenge) is to back away from some of the more dubious initiatives of Pope Francis without actually repudiating his predecessor.
Diane Montagna (@dianemontagna) provides a good example: After the release of Fiducia Supplicans, the Coptic Orthodox Church broke off ecumenical talks with the Vatican. Last week Pope Leo spoke with the Coptic Pope Tawadros II, in a bid to revive those talks. Montagna notes, however, that the Vatican was careful not to mention Fiducia Supplicans— at all— in reporting on their conversation.
