“Hesitation and resistance to the Church’s synodal journey can be addressed with clearer explanations, better training and more hands-on experience of what synodality is, bishops representing North America said.”

That’s the lead to a report in Our Sunday Visitor about another conference on implementation of the Synod on Synodality. (To be clear, I’m not faulting OSV here; their reporter is simply telling us what she heard.)

Five years into this never-ending process, ordinary church-going Catholics aren’t so much hesitant or resistant as simply checked out (if they were ever checked-in). They’ve seen and heard and read too many vague, prolix, confusing statements. They don’t want to hear any more.

So these bishops propose to sit those folks down and give them some more explanations. Tell them they need to try the process. Urge them to get involved. Yup; sounds like a winning formula.

On your way to the next conference— and there will always be a next conference— pick up some promotional flyers for the Edsel. See how the real pros handle a promotional campaign.
