It's about order of explanation. I agree moral realists want to act on the stance-independent moral truths. But I think they want to do so *because* they believe these are the things we (stance-independently) ought to do.
Furthermore I think that in many cases they believe they ought to X because it is objectively true that they ought to x. In these cases motivation bottoms out in the objective value facts.
I don't think realists have to have hidden motives like a desire for fame, but it is not clear to me how they could be motivated to act on what they take the stance-independent moral truths to be unless they wanted to do so in some way.
