I walked into Stewart's this afternoon for coffee, and the person at the register - who couldn't have been more than 20 years old - said, “This one's on me.”
I looked up, startled, and sputtered, “Oh… thank you.” I looked down at the pins on my jacket, signals to each other.
“Stay safe out there, sibling,” they said, and I thought I might cry, being called sibling by this stranger who wasn't a stranger, more than half my age.
If I could gather all the trans youth in my arms and keep them safe in the days and years to come, I would. I'm going to do my fucking best. For this sibling. For all of us.
