Greetings from the study, on a bright, clear but cold morning here in southeastern MA. A cup of freshly brewed Brazil Minas Gerais sits on the table next to me, sans the usual half & half per instructions from my eye surgeon’s office. I have cataract surgery this afternoon, and they told me nothing to eat today, but I can (thank God!) have up to 8 ounces of black coffee. I shall savor every drop.

I asked the surgical coordinator about my ability to take photos in the coming days and she told me it will probably be fine. Next Wednesday I’m shooting photos at the hospital’s volunteer event. Seeing through the viewfinder is optimal for taking photos, so fingers crossed. Everyone keeps telling me that this procedure isn’t a big deal. It’s quick and painless. I’m hoping it improves my ability to see while driving at night, especially in bad weather. It’s been tough lately, and seeing the road clearly is a good thing.

Yesterday in the ED we were once again slammed with patients and I found myself exhausted but satisfied by the end of the four hour shift. I was frequently having to make way for gurneys in the small department, but it made the time go by quickly. I think the nurses like having me there, and they certainly appreciate the help. The department was chilly yesterday, and many patients liked getting a warm blanket when I offered it to them.

I have one grandson, and next week he turns 15. So I asked my son if there’s anything we could get him for the special day, and a pair of Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless headphones were the choice. Great sound according to reviews, and excellent noise cancellation so he can block any incoming “noise” coming from is mom and dad. I think these will be a hit.

When he was born, my wife and I traveled over to Manchester UK where we stayed for our visit, part of which also entailed a trip up to Glasgow.

Here are a few photos from that trip. Have a great day.
