I compared pairwise FST values across humans, dogs, and cats.
The result surprised me: 97.3% of dog breed comparisons and 98.9% of cat breed comparisons fall within the normal range of genetic distances observed between human populations.
Yet nobody would mistake a Chihuahua for a Labrador or a Siamese for a British Shorthair. So what exactly is FST measuring?
