One of my favourite ancient medical texts is On the Diseases of Young Women. It’s a fascinating look at so many different aspects of the ancient world: the differences between early scientific and magical/religious explanations, the place of women (and girlhood) in society, and the mysterious “sacred disease” that ancient people believed in.
