In order to ‘recover’ from the trauma of reading London Falling, I read Margaret Lane’s delightful and definitive 1947 biography of Beatrix Potter. Believe me, it is a blessed relief in these tumultous times to read a book whose most dramatic moment is when Beatrix Potter admits, after years of drawing Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, that she is done with bunny rabbits.
