The Ghost Church in the Czech Republic, officially known as Kostel svatého Jiří (St. George's Church), was consecrated in 1352 and has a long history marked by adversity, including numerous fires and structural damage. In 1968, during a funeral, a piece of the roof collapsed, which convinced the local congregation that the church was haunted. After this event, they stopped holding services inside and instead worshipped outdoors. This belief, combined with thefts and vandalism over the years, led to the church falling into ruin and neglect for more than four decades.

The church’s revival came through an artistic intervention by Jakub Hadrava, a sculpture student who created life-sized ghost sculptures and placed them inside the abandoned building. These ghostly figures symbolize the spirits of the people who once lived in the area, many of whom were displaced after World War II due to political changes. The installation attracted attention and visitors from around the world, sparking donations that helped stabilize and restore parts of the church. Today, the community embraces the Ghost Church as a unique monument to history, memory, and artistic creativity, bridging past and present in a hauntingly beautiful way.
