Just taught my Intro to Creative Writing class (our fourth session this semester) — I had a perfect attendance and it was a perfect class. This magnificent poem by Todd Dillard is easily one of my favorite poems of all time. What a masterclass in line-breaks and meaning-making! Also a brilliant balancing act of abstractions and concrete specific imagery. The students were thrilled and had so much to say. Feels really good to see a bunch of 18-year-olds be so excited about poetry.
