White Man Fighting Tip 7

Anatomy - Torso

In many ways the human torso is a safer target for some strikes because it is generally softer than the skull. One thing to consider though is the mass of the human torso which for punches could still cause problems if you fail to properly tense of your wrists when punching. For example you could sprain your wrists if you try to "push" with your punch, again speaking from experience.

The liver is situated on the right side of the torso. Most other large organs are protected inside of the ribcage such as heart and lungs, etc. The liver is quite large and the bottom tip of the liver peeks out beneath the right side of the ribcage. When the liver is struck with enough force. It releases everything inside of it to the body and causes an extreme pain response, oftentimes delayed by a second or two.

It does not cause loss of consciousness, but in martial art fights, it counts as a TKO, because the fighter can no longer stand and continue.

By hitting the opponents right side at the bottom of the ribcage you may be able to cause this trauma to the liver, but if you can strike hard enough on the front of the opponent's stomach with the strike aiming towards the liver and you may still get the same effect without hitting the liver directly.

All over the human torso, strikes will often cause a stealing of breath. and can be painful. Of course ribs can be broken fairly easily, with strong punches and kicks and knees.

13sec video of a body shot TKO. Not a liver shot but the shot made the fighter feel like he was going to throw up and could not continue.
