Having a felony is not what it used to be. You can, in the USA, get a felony conviction for speeding too fast through a school zone. You can become a felon for importing frozen lobster in bags instead of boxes.

Of course, you can also get branded 'felon' with rape, robbery, and murder.

Given the perversion of the legal system, I'd pass on any labels the slap on a person and take people on a case-by-case basis.
