Fiction writers! Are you a distant third or a close third sort of person? Can you give me an example from what you’re writing?

Distant: She walked into the brush, sweating. The heat of the sun was nothing compared to the hate in her heart.

Close: She walked into the brush. The heat was killing her! She could feel sweat sliding down her forehead. Jimmy fucking Crater still beats this, though, she thought.

Anybody have any other examples? Authors frequently switch back and forth, but oftentimes you guys will have a preference that you stick to most of the time.
