Actually, it is a myth that Noah and the people of his era never saw rain. The Bible does not state rain did not exist before the flood. It wasn’t shocking & unprecedented that it rained. Rather, what was shocking & unprecedented was that it rained for 40 days & nights, that all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.

Unless you want to believe folks walked around dripping from a dew canopy—I live in Houston, I don’t want more humidity—trust that people experienced rain.

Also it was closer to 100 years, not 55-75 years. Noah was 500 when God told him to build the ark and 600 when he entered it.

  • Genesis 5:32"After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth."

  • Genesis 7:6"Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters came on the earth."

Noah’s obedience and steadfastness stood out not because of the rain, but because of the stench of the wickedness and sin of humanity that made God regret making mankind. As a result, He flooded the earth, exterminating all life sans those in the Ark and marine/aquatic life.

Scripture speaks of Noah as:

A Man who Walked with God (Genesis 6:9)

  • This phrase is only used for two people before the flood: Enoch and Noah (Genesis 5:24, 6:9).

Righteous and Blameless (Genesis 6:9)

  • "Righteous" means he lived in right standing before God.

  • "Blameless" (Hebrew: tamim) means complete, whole, or without defect—likely referring to his moral integrity and possibly his lineage in contrast to a corrupted world.

A Preacher—Noah preached to a Wicked Generation (2 Peter 2:5)

  • He was a "preacher of righteousness," meaning he didn’t just silently build the ark—he warned people.

I think it’s really cool that you’re amazed by the story of Noah and his faith! Let’s continue to be amazed by the God who called him, sustained him, and remains faithful to those who trust in Him. Check out this cool chart the shows just how different Noah was.
