One thing I've learned from coding my own journals: I almost never arrive at insight through linear thinking. Insights arrive through floods of connection. A memory triggers a passage, which triggers a feeling, which triggers a realization. It's overwhelming and inefficient and it's the only way my mind has ever produced anything worth saying. If your thinking looks like chaos from the outside, please take heart. It might be an engine from the inside.
