Five ways to practise simplicity this week:
1. Embrace the juggle. Balance is an unrealistic goal that has you chasing perfection. We are all juggling a multitude of responsibilities and they ebb and flow with the demands and the inevitable uncertainty of life. Accepting this helps you experience contentment in the day-to-day.
2. Honour the season you’re in. It’s helpful to remember that the stage of life you're in won’t be forever. For now, there’s so much compassion that stems from accepting that some things just can’t eventuate while you're here. Small steps are possible though, and they’re the seeds that will become something wonderful when time and season allows.
3. Stretch your tired, beautiful body while you’re lying down. Bend your legs and rock them slowly from side to side. Take your arms from beside your body and stretch them up over your head with each inhalation, lower with the exhalation. Lift your arms and legs towards the ceiling and rotate your hands and feet in rhythm with your breath
4. Seek direct sunlight after waking to improve your sleep at night. The UV feeds into your brain to kickstart the production of melatonin that will make you sleepy once it’s dark.
5. When you’re anxious…remind yourself that you’re safe and a predator isn’t coming to get you, take three deep breaths in and three out, look up to the sky or out to the horizon to broaden your gaze (and your perspective).
