Five ways to practise simplicity this week:

  1. Make rest a daily habit : because your body needs it, especially when it’s busy fighting the plethora of illnesses currently circulating. Think of rest as a supplement - to soothe your nervous system and boost your immunity. Daily rest is convenient, burnout isn’t.

  2. Cook and freeze a week’s worth of meals : I admit this isn’t a ‘simple’ task but after two days with a cold, I was reminded of exactly how vital meal preparation is for sick, fallow times. This is what I’m focussing on this week; batches of soup, broth, bolognaise, stew and curry.

  3. Add lemon slice to your water : hydration is just as important in winter so make it easy with fresh lemon and give yourself an added dose of VitC.

  4. SEE the remarkable ordinary in your everyday life : this is the main message in my book and the perspective I always return to. But I also need reminding, especially when life is particularly busy and I look past what’s right in front of me. I think that’s the beauty of slowing down long enough to take note…you are reminded of the bountiful life you’ve created for yourself.

  5. Embrace the cut onion to suppress coughing : it’s a bit witchy but a brown onion cut in half and placed on the bedside table works like magic to ease nightly coughing.
