The Bugut inscription in Mongolia was written during the reign of Taghpar, the ruler of the First Turkic Khaganate, in 582.
The stele was composed in Sogdian and Brahmi.
The language of the Brahmi script was once thought to be Sanskrit, but in 2014, linguists concluded it was an early version of Mongolian.
Surprisingly, there was no Turkic language in the Bugut inscription.
The Göktürks would eventually develop the first fully established native writing system of the Steppes: Old Turkic.
